Re: ABC news story/Surgery for worm in woman's head
"I came across this a few days back. How could it not cause a person that is feeling the darned things moving in there"
That's the sly thing about those creatures! They fool the brain system and the person. When they get too big or make a lot of movement is when they can be felt. Most of the time they make little movement because they don't want to be detected. Once the brain recognizes that their is foreigner in the environment, it will do anything to try to get rid of it. Having seizures is one of them or raising the body temp.
"to not have some fear in reading something like this? I'm going to get my 76 year old dad in for some kind of tests to see if there are any signs of cysts."
I can understand how there would be fear in this. BUT, let's take a different perspective for a moment. If you were living in an environment where there are poisonous snakes about, you have a fear of them (naturally) but you're in awareness of the dangers and live with caution. I think it is a terrible mistake and disservice that we've ALL been hoodwinked into believing that "parasites don't exist" attitude. If people were educated enough, we'd all be more cautious but this isn't the case and we run into problems. In the book that I read, the person ate a SALAD. Maybe if she knew that things like this could exist she wouldn't have eaten the salad or inquired about their cleaning methods of vegetables. I think it is fine to have concerns, but we can't let it drive us crazy in the process.
"I don't want to cause anxiety in people that think they could have them. I would think an MRI would show cysts?"
Some times. I just made a post about that to another poster.

ABC News story...
Yes, that is one of the posts that I made several years back. There are 2 more on the P Forum... or, I think I provided a link to those on this Forum not too long ago. If you do a quick search you should find them.
