Re: lichen sclerosus?
I was misdiagnosed over 12 years ago with herpes and was devastated, especially since it was almost impossible for me to have contracted it. Finally my new OBGYN,who told me she felt certain I didn't have it, took a biopsy and ruled it out. She then sent me to a dermatologist - yes I was surprised by that, but the new doc diagnosed my LS. My flare ups seem to be for long periods of time and for long lengths of time. I am currently using a hormone cream and lidocaine, which helps with the pain. I use the hormone cream twice a day and do for several months at a time, which concerns me. I find showering twice a day, especially if I use a handheld shower head to make sure I am really clean, helps tremendously. Don't use scented soaps and don't use washcloths.
I am scheduled for a re-check in 2 weeks but am considering checking with major research hospitals in my area to see if any of the GYN doctors there have been successful. Even though my dermatologist finally diagnosed me, I feel she is rather cavalier about her treatment. If she had this disease for one day, and I certainly wouldn't wish it on anyone, I think she would feel differently.
