I agree with you, but unfortunately there is a lot of truth in the statement they made. It is a defense mechanism against the abyss of ignorance most people are drowning in. They are too poisoned to consider actually educating themselves instead, but then that would mean lowering themselves to a student level. Pride is the enemy.
