Advice for relative considering hysterectomy after problems with Mirena
Hi all,
I spoke to a relative of mine today, she told me she is about to go ahead and have a hysterectomy after problems with her Mirena IUD.
She originally had it fitted to remedy heavy bleeding, but the bleeding has worsened since she had it fitted. I think the problem started about 2 years ago, but I'm not sure when she had the device fitted - anyhow she's been bleeding heavily ever since. Now she has been given the option to either have it removed or have a hysterectomy. I probably should mention that she had her tubes tied about 10 years ago (she's 40 now).
I gave her the usual advice about cleansing, but I'm not altogether sure what else to tell her before I've researched it thoroughly. She admits that her diet is and always has been quite bad, she recently started smoking and drinking again after a break of a good few years, she does exercise frequently though, and I think she had hepatitis (B?) when she was quite young.
Can anyone tell me what causes bleeding like this in the first place, and aside from cleansing, lifestyle improvement etc. etc. can anyone point me in the direction of some suggestions I can make for her - I'm not sure how easy she would find it to make drastic changes to her life, she reckons a hysterectomy would solve the problem, but I'd really like to at least be able to give her alternative options to consider.
Can anyone help?
Thnaks in advance
