I liked your analogy.

So, we can say that, many years ago when we were little and healthy, we were at the top of that mountain.

We went down the easy way, by abusing our bodies and pushed by negative emotions. This was easy, gravity helped us. The physical principle of potential energy can be used here. We lost the potential energy we had at the top of that mountain. Now, if we want to climb again to the top, to meet health once more, we must recover our lost potential energy on the way up.

We'll feel tired (low energy), helpless (depressed), our legs will hurt (detox), and we shall spend a lot kinetic energy to gain the potential one (stick to diets, protocols, get disciplined)

But as long as we keep climbing we are gaining potential energy again. We may fall back a few steps and lose potential energy from time to time, but if we keep climbing, even the long way, we'll recover all the lost potential energy, and our health.
