Re: Sylvia Browne 2006 Tour: If You Could See What I See.
Jesus is the Son of God, and He is one with God. The logical conclusion is that He is God and part of the trinity. Jesus states several times that He is God in the NT. Other books that you read were created by men, whereas the Bible was totally inspired by God (it is inerrant). The bible is a timeless book, because it was written by the Alpha and Omega. I can ALMOST see what you are saying when you talk about negative characteristics, but what is a negative characteristic? Is being angry negative? God has shown that He was angry at people in the OT and Jesus showed the same temperment in the NT. Again, try not to define God, because it displeases Him when you do, just as you would probably be if I said you were green person that looked like an alien.
I hate the term modern Christian. If a Chritian follows the teachings of the Bible, then you are a Christian. We don't need to adopt our ideas to the current times. If we say that we do, then we are saying that God needs to adjust to present times. And if He needs to adjust then He is not perfect. Totally inaccurate!
I believe that we were created in God's image (based on Genesis). Then the human characteristics are not ours, but God's. We don't use human characterists to describe God, we use His own characteristics to describe Him. He is the Creator and we are the created.
God created us. We did not create God. So, we have a purpose for Him and not the other way around. To say that God is there for our own purpose or use is blasphemous. We are here to serve Him. We were created to serve Him, but in His loving character He takes care of us.
I was a Catholic before I became a Christian. You may ask what the difference is ,but there is. The Catholic faith is a "man-centered" faith, where as Christianity is a "Jesus-centered" faith. Interestingly, the outside of each of these faiths looks similar enough, but the guts are far from being the same. I found no flaws in Christianity, because it is God centered. He is PERFECT!
