Mirena Removed after 2 weeks.

Hi to you all

A massive thank you. I had a Mirena fitted 28th November. I have had 5 children and was looking for an effective form of birth control. Had taken the pill before but was prone to forgetting to take them. The nurse at my post natal check up suggested Mirena. I had never considered an IUD but it sounded very appealing (the phrase to good to be true springs to mind). I thought about it and decided to go ahead. I asked my doctor for a letter of referral to have it fitted. I asked were there any side efects which looking back she didn't really answer. The doctor who fitted the device advised I read the information leaflet before my appointment which I did. It mentioned alot of side effects which concerned me but I thought these are probably very uncommon, every medication has side effects but they don't effect many. Anyway I asked the doctor about these just before she fitted the device. She also avoided the question explaining how my bleeding would be effected and how to check the strings etc. but no mention of the side effects I experienced. I had it fitted and they started from that evening. The first sharp word from my husband and I was off in floods of tears. I was so down that I cried every night for the 1st 4-5 days. Even when that stopped I still felt this awful low feeling. I couldn't sleep, every night I would lie til 2-3am before I'd fall asleep. I had no bleeding or cramps. On day 8 I rang my doctor to get appointment to have it removed ( she doesn't insert them but will remove them). Earliest app was for Wed 12th Dec thought I'd never see the day. Anyway started to feel ill on the 6th Dec and I have never felt so bad. It was not the normal aches and pains with a dose. These were terrible, bad headaches and a septic throat. While this illness was a coincidence I have never been this ill before. I believe Mirena made the pain worse. Anyway MIRENA is now history it was removed the 12th Hooray! I already feel so much better. Sleeping fine again. Bleeding the last three days but its easing off. I know my symptoms were not as bad as alot of you have experienced, but if it weren't for your postings I may not have linked mine to Mirena. I had similar symptoms with Cilest CP but thought in hind sight it was Post natal Depression. Just couldn't figure out why I just had PMD with 2 out of my 5 children. Looks like me and hormonal contraception don't mix. Will try the natural method and hope it works. If not all I can say is that another pregnancy would be better than a living nightmare with Mirena.
Thanks again your emails gave me great support.
