Doggie Dermatitis gone..

I have an older (approx.9 yrs.) pit/lab mix. She had developed some lipomas and spots of dermatitis (hair loss) in a few places. Over the lipomas and a spot on her tail. The vet was no help. I had been reading on here about the BARF diet. I was looking into it and other healthy foods.

Also I have a Shitzu/poodle puppy. The Canine store that I frequent recommended that I not get the puppy on the BARF diet yet because he has been sick a couple of times. When we first brought him home at 8 weeks old he became extremely ill within just a few hours. He was given fluids under the skin, anti nausea medicine, a B-12 shot--we took him him with instructions on how to handle low blood Sugar and that if he wasn't eating by evening he'd have to be hospitalized. Fortunately, he recovered just fine. I just wasn't told how to watch to blood Sugar on very small breed puppies. He got sick another time, had to stay at the vets, have a barium study, the doc thought he had swallowed something. It turned out that apparently he overate and his food swelled in his stomach. It was grain based commercial food--it was the fault of the food, I think.

Anyway, back to my point. Because the puppy had been sick twice the Canine store recommended that I not put him on the BARF diet yet, as it seemed his immune system was weak now. So, I researched and decided on Evo by Innova. It is low carb, meat based, no grain, but does have some vegetables. It is dried at low temps to retain enzymes and nutrients. They are both thriving on it. Happy, the big dog has regrown hair on the bald spots, she still has the lipomas though.

Bear, the puppy is growing, extremely energetic and has had no problems at all. Another thing I found out by accident is that the low carb diet has not caused an acidic condition. I have been checking my ph a lot lately. I was carrying the puppy and I had an un-used ph stick in my hand (don't ask me why!) anyway, the puppy licked it. It immediately turned very green. His saliva ph was nice and high. It was a neat discovery.

So, if you can't do raw food or want to supplement with something I highly recommend Evo by Innova. Kind of pricey but worth it.
