Night Time Nasal Congestion

Hi MH,

I have been struggling with night time nasal congestion, actually, anytime I lay down or put my head back my nasal passages become congested. I have been waking up 3 or 4 hours into sleep with my nasal passages completely blocked.

I am sure that it is a nasal tissue inflamation problem, and NOT a mucus problem. I eat a perfect diet of fruit and vegetables and never have significant mucus in my throat or nasal passages. During the day my nose is ALWAYS perfectly clear and I never have colds, flus, etc...

Again, I am certain this is not a mucus/waste problem.

I know that the nose has erectile tissue inside and that it swells with increased blood flow to the nose (which would explain why when I lay down or tilt my head back my nasal passages close up).

So I am sure that it is a blood flow/Tissue inflammation problem within the nose. I have perfectly clear nasal passages when I stand up, but again, only when I lay down or tilt head back I can feel the blood rush to my head/nose and then nasal passages inflame and become blocked.

Any ideas as to why my nasal passage tissue may be so sensitive and overactive & swelling when I lay down? This is year-round and not seasonal. I have eleminated all allergic possibilities and am at a loss for how to solve this problem.

I have resorted to sleeping sitting up, but want to get back to sleeping laying on my stomach.

any advice is appreciated.

thank you!
