Oleander and MMS + too many supplements and the liver
As it turns out, this same topic came up this past week in my Yahoo Health Group - Oleandersoup.
Here are the questions and answers - and I might also direct the reader's attention to the issues I addressed in taking too many supplements, as well as the possible effects of supplements on the liver.
Are there any of you that would be willing to share your opinion regarding MMS combined with oleander (OPC)? I'm currently taking 1 tblsp oleander 3x daily, combined with other supplements for HCV.
I'm already struggling with diarrhea taking the OPC. Because the MMS is an oxidizer, Jim Humble suggests if taking Vit C (antioxidant), to do so approx. 4 hours after taking the MMS. Is Oleander considered to be an antioxidant? If so, do you think it would be advisable to take the oleander after time has passed taking the MMS? I apologize if this is a not-so-intelligent question, but I get confused with ALL of the information I have gained in less than a year's time.
I do not remember if I was taking the MMS first and then started on the OPC, but when I combined the two and I was taking high dosages of the MMS. I started throwing up a few hours later and then diarrhea set in. I could not urinate with out crapping , so I learned real fast to sit to pee and I had zero control of my bowels and had about nine accidents. I stopped using the MMS, but continued with the OPC (3 teaspoons/day), but my diarrhea lasted another 3 or 4 weeks. I did not go any where with out extra underwear. It has all cleared up now and I will start on the MMS again, but with a low dose. I'm sure I created my own problem . I forgot to mention I am taking all kinds of supplements and that may have added to the problem.

How well did you filter your OS, Jim? What you described has never been known to happen with well filtered OS, the OPC supplement or the patented medicine Anvirzel.
I would caution that taking a great many supplements, unless you really know what you are doing, may not be a good idea. You could have supplements offsetting one another, supplements having an additive effect beyond what is safe, or otherwise have a combination with unforseen results.
One of the most common problems people who take multiple supplements have is liver problems. A great many people who use supplements are battling an illness or condition directly related to an impaired liver. Too many of the wrong supplements can be very difficult for the liver to process - especially when a person has an impaired liver to begin with, because you have a liver operating at less than full efficiency which is further taxed from the toxins being released as they treat and address their health problem and then, to add insult to literal injury, this already impaired liver with a greater workload is also expected to somehow handle the job of properly handling the load of processing multiple supplements.
As a rule of thumb, if you are ill, you probably do have liver problems of one sort or another and you should seriously take a look at liver cleanses and detoxes, changing your diet to one that is both healthy and least taxing on the liver, and supplements which have been proven to help protect and regenerate the liver.
In my own case, far too much hops and barley based beverages, as well as those made from sour mash, pototoes and my beloved blue agave plant, a lifetsytle that lasted past the age of 40 that presumed immortality, and too much Blue Bell Icecream fast food, processed foods, etc, all combined to create an enlarged fatty liver, something I have only recently figured out.
My solution is a much stricter diet that includes more raw fruits and vegetables, less meat, drinking beet juice, etc., liver cleanses and detox, more healthy oils that help clear the bile ducts and keep them flowing, such as coconuts, plenty of fresh water, sunshine, exercise, much less sugar (damn I love that Bluebell and Cokes too, not to mention those dang Snicker bars that jump in my pockets or hands when I am not looking - lol), and the proven supplements for good liver health, including protection and regeneration:
Milke Thistle (Silymarin)
Selenium
MSM
Turmeric
Alpha Lipoic Acid Acid
Outside of those items, I have cut way back on taking other supplements. I do take OS in a maintenance dose, Vitamin D3, some Colloidal Silver as needed, plant derived minerals (half dose) and OxyGen.
When my liver improves I may add a few more items back in, but in my case that may take quite some time, just as the damage did, and the liver must be returned from an organ that stores fat to one that only helps process and elimate fat, as well as toxins, from the body.
I would highly suggest that those who actually have a health problem such as cancer consider doing all they can, even if that means holding off on some desired supplements, until the liver impairment is addressed, and then continuing to take actions and supplements for the liver once the impairment is corrected.
Back to the original issue of MMS and OS - one of the things I am still not settled on is the risks of MMS, although I am impressed with much of what I have read so far. I am also not sure that many of what are basically the same benifits might not also be gained with iodine.

Thanks Tony, I have not tried the OS yet as I have not found any oleander trees that were not close to busy streets or highways, therefore I have been using the OPC and I called it OPS in my reply.
I am using almost everything that has cured cancer and I have been concerned that some of the supplements could counter act each other.
I had my left knee replaced 10/10/07 and they made me get off all supplements two weeks before the surgery and that concerned me. I waited five weeks before I started using them again as they were checking my blood each week. I am back on everything except CS and iodine. They told me Wednesday that they had never seen anyone my age recover so fast. Every thing is going great, now I have to decide what to give up.
Thanks again, Jim K
That is great news about your condition and fast recovery. I suggestyou try the OPC again briefly to see if you get the same reaction and then filtering the OPC through some unbleached coffee filters and see if there is a difference.
IF THERE IS, please let us know and I will make a very strong suggestion to Marc to use better filtration. As far as I know, he may use very good filtration now, but a year or so ago I recall he and others being skeptical about the filtration issue whereas I am now firmly convinced of the need for it.
I might mention that lesser filtration usually only results in a period of fairly mild side effects and the body does normally adjust to them in short order after beginning the OS and sometimes after increasing the dosage amount as you work your way up to the maximum dose - and I would never let a question about filtration prevent me from ordering the OPC. It is a wonderful product, made under very strict controls. But it might need better filtration. If you tell us there is a difference, then on can simply order it and filter it an extra time as a precaution against having the loose bowels - which I strongly suspect in your case come from some combination of all the supplements you take and not just the OPC.
I do not think that oxidizers and antioxidants are mutually exclusive or even necessarily reactive together - but it would be a good idea to take them with at least a 4 hour separation. The same holds true for other supplements that are commonly taken. Zinc and Magnesium for example - they should be taken separately because the appear to interfere with the absorption of one another when taken at the same time.,
In the future, if I were to have a major surgical event (heaven forbid), I would take two 500 mg capsules of bromelain daily for several days leading up to the surgery, perhaps leaving off only a day or two before the the surgery and then continue again very soon if not immediately after.
As you can see in the article I compiled (Bromelain The Wonder Supplement - http://www.tbyil.com/bromelain.htm) bromelain speeds healing by as much as four times faster in all kinds of injuries, wounds, bruises and surgeries.
Just my own opinion here, but CS and iodine are two items that would be the very last things I would ever discontinue. If you are taking MMS, it appears to do much the same thing as iodine though.
