Urinary Tract Infection/UTI/Cystitis/Bladder Infection Cure for Pets and People
The answer is D-mannose(Please note,I am not selling this product I am saying that it works, and fast ). Once the cat is urinating and is home and there may be still crystals in the urine and irritation. D-Mannose will get rid of the crystals and the bacteria especially if it's e coli based. If the cat is beginning to have a problem, D-mannose will head it off before it gets to becoming a blockage. It even works as a preventative but then as others have said, cut out the fish and dry food and add water to the canned food and have food that is low ash and low magnesium or you're going to have this product fighting an uphill battle. You can get it anywhere. It doesn't matter the brand but the powder works best. The one I have says 2,000 mg per teaspoon and I based what I gave on what it said to give humans and how often but then sized it down for a cat based on weight.
Now this is important, the cat has to be actually urinating, not blocked or in the process of blocking when you use this, and it works by building up enough of it in the bladder so it becomes a matter of balancing how much water you give with it. What I did was use 1/8 tsp mixed in 1 tablespoon of water. Then the next hour, the same. The third hour, the same. Now, at that point, there should be, after several hours, 3/8 of a teaspoon of it in the bladder. If the cat urinates during this time you are back to square one. If the cat doesn't urinate(but is still able to, not blocked) then D-mannose has time to work in the bladder. Three hours later I gave another 1/8 teaspoon in 1 tablespoon of water. If, after several more hours, the cat isn't urinating, but still can, you could consider giving 1/8 teaspoon of D-mannose with 2 tablespoons of water is order for the cat to urinate, and this is necessary after the D-Mannose has had 4-5 hours in the bladder, for the urine to carry out all the killed e-coli and bad bacteria. I have noticed a dramatic improvement in as little as three doses. Now this is important too, you can't stop giving this too soon because the bacteria can become entrenched again and very quickly so you have to keep giving it for some time, maybe not as much or as often but at least several times a day for several weeks even when you think the cat is all better. It may even work as a preventative, some added to the water supply every day.
The important thing, once again, is you can't be giving fluids if there's any reason to suspect that the cat is blocking or has blocked. This is not for that purpose. I can't stress that enough. It's to be used once the cat is urinating, to get rid of the crystals and bacteria that is causing the problem in the first place. If the cat is starting to urinate normally and easier then the amount can be given at 1/8 teaspoon in one tablespoon of water ( or two, depending on whether you want the cat to urinate or not , or retain what you gave in the bladder for some time in order to work) every 3 hours, then every 4-5 hours, then every 6 -8 hours, depending on the improvement you see. Every case in different. This is just a guideline. No hard and fast rule here. You have to work it according to what your cat is doing at any given time. It says on the bottle I have " D-mannose is a simple
Sugar that occurs naturally in some plants including cranberries. Although small amounts of D-mannoseare metabolized by the bodymuch of it is rapidly excreted in the urine. In the bladder, D-mannose can adhere to bacterial lectins preventing them from sticking to the lining of the bladder.Bacteria can then be flushed away during urination thereby precluding the formation of colonies in the urinary tract. D-mannose does not interfere with blood
Sugar regulation."
Cranberries work by making the urine acidic but e coli thrives in acidic urine and this can exacerbate the problem making it worse. D-mannose doesn't do this and I've seen dramatic results using it. Here are some links, there are others on the Internet.
Remember what is written above is just a guideline, every cat is different.
