Could effects be enhanced by Niacin Flush?
I wonder how/whether the helpful NO effects might be enhanced if you are taking niacin for the flush. I have been told that I need to flush with niacin until the flush goes away, in order to open up my capillaries, and increase blood circulation to my skin. I've been doing it to see if it will help get rid of the critters creeping around on the surface itching me.
You're supposed to start with 100mgs of niacin, taken twice a day. Let the skin flush. The reason niacin causes the flush is because it's expanding the capillaries, which are capable of letting 4-5 blood cells through at a time, but most people have lost full capacity and only 1-2 cells are going through. Flushing with niacin expands the capillaries so they are functioning at their full potential. It improves circulation.
I was told to keep taking 100 mgs of niacin per day until the flush goes away, then increase to 200mgs, then 300 mgs, etc until I no longer get the flush when I take it, and then I'm done. Apparently people usually stop flushing somewhere between 1000-1500 mgs per day.
Unless it's unbearable for some reason, do not run for the Benadryl bottle when your skin starts flushing. Enjoy it. It only lasts a few minutes, and it will probably go away on it's own by the time the Benadryl gets into your system. There is no reason to contaminate your body with a pharmaceutical product to get rid of it. The purpose of taking niacin (in this manner) is to make your skin flush. Get a soft boar bristle brush and scrub your skin while it's flushing to stop the itching.
I worked up to 500mgs a while back and ran out. By the time I bought more, it only took 300 to make me flush. I plan to continue until I no longer flush.
This kinda seemed related, since you were talking about vasodilation, but I'm not sure how it relates to NO specifically. Maybe Shroom can help. Hope I haven't hijacked the thread.
