Prevention of Spreading query

This may have been brought up before... I'm am very worried that I am going to spread my genital herpes to my sexual partners in the future. In between outbreaks and symptoms, would it help at all to use anti bacterial gel on genital regions especially areas not covered by a condom that claim to kill 99.9% of germs?

Would this help prevent spreading the virus at all or is it a silly suggestion?
