My dear, I think you have a bible bump....or rather, a ganglion cyst. I had one of these on the top of my ankle and it really hurt! See if this picture looks like what you have:

They call it a bible bump, because in the old days they took the family bible and smashed it. It is the only way to get rid of one appartently. I got rid of mine by kicking a football.

So, my guess is no, it's not carpal tunnel.....
