Small Red Moles?

Does anyone know what causes red moles that look like blood popping through the skin? I'm a 36 year old female. Over the last few years, these moles have taken over my body. I have hundreds of them and they are all above the skin. The first one I ever noticed I had removed by my dermatologist. She said it is when the blood vessel breaks and pops through the skin. They vary in size. I would like to know if anyone else gets these, and is there a treatment for them besides surgery. Could I be getting bit by something?
