Strontium

For those that may be considering Strontium, please do some research; especially if you have weak bone/teeth along with weak kidneys (or one or the other), AND if you get plenty of sun and/or take a vitamin D supplement as vitamin D significantly increases uptake of minerals and metals into the bone.  Understanding vitamin Ds roll a little better once again makes a case for daily sun and a healthy diet with exercise.

The following from acu-cell is a very brief/partial list of synergists/antagonists.  Keep in mind that antagonists usually work to "balance" each other out in the body.

Further study (on your part) will show that there is a very common, somewhat confusing understanding of the synergistic action of metals, minerals and D in bone... some good, some not so good.

From: http://www.acu-cell.com/sr.html

Strontium Synergists:  Vitamin D, magnesium, vanadium,

Strontium Antagonists:  Calcium, phosphorus, insoluble fiber,

Low Levels / Therapeutic Indications for Strontium:

Decreased growth in animals, dental caries, osteoporosis, bone pain,

High levels / Overdose / Toxicity / Negative Side Effects - Symptoms and/or Risk Factors:

Dental caries, rickets, abdominal spasms, nausea, diarrhea, headaches, skin irritation, blood clots, fainting, memory problems, seizures.

Notice similarities in symptoms between too much or too little.

Strontium overload and toxicity: impact on renal osteodystrophy.

"...high strontium doses induced mineralization defects, with a corresponding 160-fold accumulation of strontium in bone. Studies indicated that the accumulation of metals in bone might be synergistic. "

Another thing to consider is that high strontium levels in bone has been associated with increased bone uptake of aluminum and other metals as well.

Use some key words here like strontium along with renal failure, aluminum and other metals, vitamin D, synergy, synergistic, etc. and do some reading.

Here is another reference... Strontium and Rickets

"The results suggest that in villages where nutrition is mainly based on grain cereals the presence of strontium in the soil will increase the prevalence of rickets significantly."

Be well...
