This forum is dedicated to discussion and education about critical thinking and magical thinking.
Where do you draw the line?
How far do you go in critical analysis?
Are you experimenting with new ideas?
Would you ever try some "alt-med" remedy based on a single testimonial?
Do you often suspend normal disbelief?
Do you often have blind faith in people, books or remedies?
How about "...sounds good to me..." ? Do you often accept what another says because it fits into your pre-existing belief system and because you accept the speaker as an authority?
The most dangerous kind of blind faith - blind faith in one's own intellect! There are people who are convinced that they have looked at the facts and have come up with the true answer - one that majority has overlooked.
People who refuse to consider new ideas are as dangerous as those who accept everything on faith. An intelligent and wise person is one who weighs the data and uses what is best from the new and the old, discarding ideas that don't work or are disprove, whether new or old.
How about education and schools? Does education warrants critical thinking? Looks like only a minority of educated people are truly scientists, thinkers, critical thinkers - the majority are good at the sciences but weak on scientific thinking.
