Yes, DMSA will remove other metals, and essential minerals. I don't recommend it. It is overkill in most cases. You can read this on chelation, but I recommend something different for your son because he does not have a lot to chelate.

As far as the crown, he can chelate only if the crown is not porcelain over metal, in which the metal contain nickel. Most do contain nickel. If it does, you should get it replaced, then chelate. You should get him a porcelain over gold crown made with biocompatible materials.
For chelation for your son I recommend oral EDTA chelation. It is generally accepted that EDTA, taken intravenously, does not remove mercury. However, Cysteine and N Acetyl Cysteine do remove mercury. So, intravenous EDTA is not useful, while oral chelation does remove mercury.
either one of these two, Vibrant Life or Beyond Chelation Improved. They are the the best chelation formulas in the world and easier than taking a bunch of individual chelators

A crown made of Diamondcrown and gold here is about $600. Yes, Dentists do not like to answer questions normally. Some, it is an ego problem, some just don't want to be bothered, and some do not have a clue as to the answers of your questions, and sometimes a combination of those. I have bridges in my mouth (most are temporary and need replaced, haven't done it yet) and diamondcrown fillings. I don't know what kind of bridge, it was biogold, I think; It was done according to my biocompatibility chart, so I'm sure it is fine. Click here for the chelation I did. I did everything but the cilantro and chlorophyll, just never got to it, but I did eat lots of cilantro at the time.

If you take things that chelate mercury while you still have amalgams, it pulls mercury out of the teeth and more can end up in the brain (mercury's favorite place to reside). You up your chances of getting an autoimmune disease. With mercury fillings, it is a catch 22; Much like autoimmune diseases, the healthier you are, the more able your body is to attack itself.
