The first thing I suspect when a person does not want to give up bread is candida. If you think this is a possibility at all, I would ask her to start acidophilus (four per day) and to begin eating fresh but lightly cooked food, and to keep her bowels open. In her compromised state, she probably does not digest raw food that well. If she can digest raw food, have her eat it. But ask her not to eat processed foods. Nothing from a can, box or the freezer.
You want to get minerals in her. Make soups that you put fresh vegetables in.I would even include some meat in her diet, maybe in the soup. Protein is important for tissue repair. Give her a spoonful of blackstrap unsulphured molasses each day, even if she eats it with her bread. Throw out all the regular salt and replace it with
Sea Salt . You have to find out things she will eat that are healthy.
I suggest the acidophilus to try to correct her bowel flora. She cannot get stronger if her digestion is not good, and if she does have candida, it will help correct it. Since she is nervous and weak, she needs every bit of nutrition you can get into her. I also suggest you try an herb called gotu kola, four per day in the morning if you get them at Walmart, two per day in the morning if you buy Schiff Centella (the same thing)at the health food store. This will give her strength and help her heal naturally.
If you can make green juices for her, that would be ideal, if she can handle them.
Get her outside in the fresh air if possible.
No fried foods. No margarine, only butter. For her nerves, she needs a good oil. If she likes salad dressing make her an oil and vinegar drink, or put oil over her vegetables AFTER they are cooked.
Please be sure she gets no aspartame, splenda or msg. Msg is sometimes disguised as hydrolyzed vegetable protein. You may want to research msg to get all the different names. These products really mess up the nerves in the body, as well as organs.
You say she doesn't use salt. What I would do would have her take
Sea Salt , maybe 1/2 tsp per day in water, every day. It will give her minerals, and unbelievably, will help her blood pressure stabilize. Try it for a week to see.
If she were my mother, my first goal would be to try to get some strength into her. When she feels better, she may look at more things. This may take some months.
She is not going to exercise if she feels weak. And she is not going to take a ton of supplements if she is anything like my mother. But if you can get her to take the gotu kola, I promise you she will begin to feel better; it lifts the mood and takes away anxiety. It also prevents skin breakdown.
You have to do what you can, and not worry about what you can't. When she starts to feel better and see some results, she will want more. For now, I would concentrate on fresh food, fresh air, minerals, good digestion, and some elevation of mood.
