i used an ionizer in a new matrix and it made a world of difference.

there is a ton of info ont he web about environmental pollution from the materials in cars. yea, they will make you sick.

park it out int he sun to speed the outgassing. drive with windows open all the time. just turn the air up or put on a coat or whatever is appropriate. it will slow down considerably after one year.

that new car smell that everyone seems to like is death, pure and simple. did you have the cloth seats stain protected? major fluoride in that. fire retardants have bromide in them. plus the biphenal in plastic.

i would never buy a new car. you take the hit economically and in your health. one year or older is the most logical thing to do, if you think about it.

The top three are Bromine, Fluoride and Lead none are neutralized with ions or even ozone.
That said I have a little ozone generator I kept running, it plugs in the cig lighter and that does help some:

If you check the old messages there is a link to some site that lists all the chemicals in your new car and how bad each manufacturer is, apparently Volvo interiors are so clean that they can be eaten with a little salt :)

It's the residual amine catalysts in the polyurethane components, outgassing. Two types of catalysts, blowing catalysts and gelling catalysts. There's quite a few out ther, with bis-DMAPA being one, DGA another. Mostly blocked secondary and tertiary amines.

ionizers won't work, need to adsorb it onto activated carbon or else neutralize the amine. I'd just drive with the windows open, and my shirt off.

I would drive with the windows down all the time, except when you are in heavy traffic. Take back roads and such when you can.

I hate the "new car" scent and many car smells in general are too strong for me... I got a used car with leather seats, that combo seems to be the best for me, and I still drive with the windows down 90% of the time, unless it is extremely hot or cold (rare) or if I have passengers that complain. :-)
