If you can find Raw Organic Kombucha locally (it MUST be raw), even a commercial product, you can make your own kombucha mushroom.
My mushroom took about 2 weeks to form properly. From this first kombucha mushroom, I have literally harvested hundreds.
Make the kombucha, per instructions, then use the bottle of "raw" organic kombucha to "seed" it. The culture will form over time dependent upon the temperature etc. where you place it.
After day 7, check it every few days or so. I could not drink my first batch that I used to form the mushroom as it was too strong for me...

You do not need to buy a kombucha mushroom...
Once or twice I ended up with mold on top of the culture; found out it happened when the kids got curious. I just tossed the batch and cleaned everything thoroughly to start again. Fortunately, I have all the mushrooms I need, and losing one or two is not a big deal.
