Most individuals have no or only minimal signs or symptoms from HSV-1 or HSV-2 infection. When signs do occur, they typically appear as one or more blisters on or around the genitals or rectum. The blisters break, leaving tender ulcers (sores) that may take two to four weeks to heal the first time they occur. It's highly unlikely that you'd get HSV2 orally. Oral HSV2 happens, but it's relatively rare. Even less likely that you'd get it through kissing. The most likely route would be by you performing oral sex on someone with active HSV2, but even then, as I say, it's not likely.

Please remember that herpes is not a systemic infection. It is localized to the general area of the initial infection.
