...as I found (at TWO different sites) a comination of iodine/iodide that was NOT this 'recipe' (from Wombat's recent post)
>> "It consists of 5%
Iodine and 10% potassium
Iodide in distilled water with total
Iodine content of 130 mg/mL. Potassium
Iodide is added to render the
Iodine water-soluble." THAT is LUGOL'S.<<< Amen.
When I inquired at Niles Bio...
>> Comments: I'm interesting in some
Lugol's Solution. Could you tell me
what 'grade' it is, please...USP? Other? If "other", could you describe the 'other'?
Also, I attempted to order once before and you were out of stock; do you have the 500ml size in stock now?<<
The reply:
>>>By grade, it is laboratory grade. It is IKI, for staining and starch
testing, not exactly Lugol's.<<<
-----
But if it's the right chemicals and the right measurements (as stated on their site), it IS Lugol's!!! DAGNABBIT!
It's NOT important to pay attention to the 'warnings' about 'not for internal use', and
Lugol's IS generally used for staining and starch testing...but it IS important to make sure the 'recipe' is right and good quality chemicals were utilized. (And since Niles told me it's "not exactly Lugol's", then they're off my list of potential suppliers).
I believe "Regeant Grade" is the highest quality of chemicals, and that "USP Grade" is the highest quality of solutions. But I've seen
Lugol's created from 'Regeant Grade' chemicals that's NOT 'USP Grade'....and THAT is fine with me. My research indicates to me that the 'USP' label is not necessary if good chemicals are used and the 'recipe' is right.
So far, these are my two 'best bets' (I originally got a 500ml bottle from MedEx, but they no longer sell it).
