I don't know, but this is an interesting question that you asked.
I have a generally lousy sense of time - but perhaps that's because I don't really care. Time and punctuality are not important to me.
On the other hand, I can usually wake up 1-3 minutes before my alarm goes off even when I am really sleepy, and even though it can be set at completely different hours on different days.

consciously begin to play with time yourself... I have been working for many years to slow down the pace of my life, mentally and spiritually... in some cases I now feel like I am in a time warp with things speeding by around me.

It is kind of weird in some respects as I can produce more than my coworkers who seem to be flying around at warp speed, at least to me... so there must be illusionary aspects.

Another thing I have tried to do since "slowing down" is to try and freeze moments; it is all in the mind. This is tricky, but fun to play with; it does happen on occasion.

I have no references for you... I do this, and practice it on my own.

Interestingly, I remember reading somewhere about Einstein and his theories. It stated that he made a lunch date with a very beautiful, intelligent and gracious woman - a friend's wife.

He sat to lunch and enjoyed himself so, he guessed he had spent half an hour or so with her. When he checked the clock, he noted that 2 hours had passed.

Then he figured he would try to sit on on a hot plate. When he could not stand it any longer he guessed it had been at least 10 minutes, only to find out it had only been 30 seconds.

So, time was indeed relative.

Don't know if this story was true, but I found it amusing and memorable.

Darryl Reanney's "After Death, A New Future for Human Consciousness" is a fascinating read (and it's not at all morbid!) He thoroughly addresses the issue (among other things).

Deepak Chopra's "The Book of Secrets" and Stephen Hawking's "A Brief History of Time" are equally interesting.
