ML, I've seen a lot written on "alkalizing minerals".
Is there such a thing as an "acidifying mineral", and if so, can you name two or three of them ?

Phosphate and Sulfer are both Acid forming Minerals !
Edit: Phosphoric Acid is made from Phosphates !
And Sulfuric Acid is made from Sulfer !
And these are Both Cationic in Nature and have a much Greater amount of Millhouse units of Energy than an Anion may have, thus the Reason "WHY" it may take much more Alkaline Minerals to Balance out these Acids in a Reaction with them! End of Edit.

I'm just a little confused, and perhaps you can help me.
I wonder why then is sulfate in epsom salts (MgSO4) considered to be alkalizing, if it contains sulfur ?
Or perhaps I am mistaken in believing that MgSO4 is "alkalizing", and maybe it is acidifying.
Also, most plants contain large amounts of inositol hexaphosphate, which is IP6, which has a LOT of phosphorous, in fact, six phosphate groups bonded to an inositol nucleus, which as many are aware is a sugar in the B-vitamin family. It would then seem that plants also contain a large amount of acidifying minerals as well ! I am always amazed at the high amounts of IP6 in plants !
Should foods that are high in phosphorous and sulfate be avoided ?

If "YOU" would learn to read a little Better, "YOU" may could have Learned from my past posts that Epsom Salt contains both an Alkaline Mineral called Magnesium and an Acid element called Sulfate !
And when this is combined with water it has an Acidifying effect because of the Sulfates it contains !
And as the Magnesium is then utilized by the body to help the Liver and Kidneys to properly Regulate the Proteins in the body, the sulfates also help to Regulate the Protein Isotopes, by Causing the Protein to hold to the Alkaline Isotope !
For you see, not everthing may be as it may First seem to be !

Plants cannot be properly ionized without phosphates, thus one may not have Top Quality Plants without enough Phosphates to Cause the Binding of the Alkaline Minerals by Phosphates !

Should foods that are high in phosphorous and sulfate be avoided ?
In other words, if someone is trying to alkalize, then shouldn't they avoid phosphorous and sulfur, because these two are acidifying minerals ?

Let us consider what I just posted about that in order for foods to have High amounts of Alkaline Minerals that the Plants must also have enough of the Different Acids to accomplish this job !
So this may mean that to have high Alkaline Minerals in the Plant(High Brix Readings), that the Plants must also have Higher amounts of these Acids in them !
Where the problem comes in is when the Plant has too much Nitrogen in ratio to these other Acids and Alkaline Minerals !
For with too much Nitrogen the Plant will carry too much water , which will Dilute out the Alkaline Minerals and Cause the food to spoil !
Now with the info that Plants cannot have High Alkaline Minerals without enough of these Acids to Bind these Alkaline Minerals, "YOU" decide if a person should eat Natural foods which are high in phosphates and sulfates ?
For you may find with some research that "ALL" cole crops are generally higher in sulfates, this provides these crops to also contain more Calcium and other Alkaline Minerals !
As usual not everything may be as it may First seem to be !
Everything in the whole universe is controlled by the Acid Alkaline pH Balancing Principles, and there is "NOTHING" which is not so !

It seems that it is not possible for you to answer then, other than to say that it is for the individual to decide for themselves whether eating acidifying minerals is desirable or not, when trying to alkalize.
You mention that if a plant has too much nitrogen, it is a problem.
How can a person tell if a plant has "too much nitrogen" ?

There are many tools of the industry which are hand held and may check the Nitrogen content of plants, but of course "YOU" need to understand what "YOU" are Seeking to find, for with a Lack of Knowledge of the subject "YOU" may be without understanding !
If "YOU" want to understand these things, "YOU" may have to First learn about the subject ?

This is a reply to # 828,881Thank you. I used to operate a Leco nitrogen analyzer when I wa an analytical chemist for the Lubrizol corporation. The only accepted alternate to the Leco, is the well known Kjeldahl method of nitrogen determination. Those are the only two methods accepted by the art.
Can you kindly inform me of which hand-held instruments to which you refer, and a source for them ?
I might wish to acquire one.

I like learning, and am trying to learn from you ! As a chemist, I am only aware of two means for analyzing nitrogen, yet you have mentioned that there is possibly a third.
If you can tell me the model number and manufacturer of the nitrogen analyzer of which you speak, I would appreciate it very much.

The C-141 only measures nitrate.

Nitrate is not nitrogen, although nitrate does contain about 23% nitrogen by weight.
The device you referenced will not detect ammoniacal nitrogen, amino nitogen, or nitrilo nitrogen, all of which are present in plants.

I am sorry that "YOU" are stuck in "YOUR" Little own Box !
For "IF" "YOU" were as smart as "YOU" want everyone to believe, then "YOU" would already know that an Ion Specific test meter checks for a specific Ion !
In this case the meter I provided you with "ONLY" test for Nitrate form of Nitrogen !
As Nitrogen is an Isotope, it also has other forms of Ion Specific Nitrogen !
And these other forms may be tested by the Ion Specific test meters which are also available for those who understand this info, which it seems "YOU" have been out of the loop too long to be aware of these Different testing tools or the understanding of Isotopes ?
As this whole conversation with you has been on your part trying to find a way to trick me up, I am sorry for "YOU" that "YOU" Fall so short on understanding of these subjects !
