I live in the States and almost all the Bees I see around now are the Africanized, or "Killer Bees". The "Killer Bees" are very aggressive just like Yellow Jacket Wasps. When I was a kid all of the Bees here were a much gentler, Regular "European Honeybee".
My question is, does anyone know if this would affect the quality of local Honey? Is the Honey of the "Killer Bee" different in any way than the Honey of the Regular Honeybee?

This is a reply to # 815,165?? I'm pretty sure honey sold in stores is from bee-farms. They wouldn't be using killer bees in their farms lol :P The poor beekeepers would be stung to death!!

There must be some Killer Beehives around.

This is a reply to # 815,177We had a huge africanized behive in our backyard at my old house. It was absolutely HUGE and full of thick honey, but I didn't get a chance to try it, b/c one day i came home and an exterminator had showered it w/ poison at my roommate's request.
I was angry b/c i'd almost come to think of these bees as our pets. LOL.
I would think the health benefits would be about the same, but how to get at the honey in the first place is the problem, as magic glitter eluded to.

This is a reply to # 815,165there is usually a trade off between agro and non-agro bees. The agro bees will produce much more honey than the docile ones. Consider that kind of vitality an advantage as the bees are more apt to travel farther and frequent more flowers. More flowers, more pollen. More pollen, at least with raw honey, more potent.

Thanks everybody, for your posts! I've decided not to worry about it.
I have had Honey in my Coffee or Tea every morning for 31+ years and I stopped about 6 months ago and started using Xylitol. Problem was, I had no energy with the Xylitol. I would be tired immediatly afterwards. Since our bodies make a small amount of Xylitol anyway, I'm not sure how our bodies metabolize any extra that we ingest. I don't think there have been any studies on it that I could find.
So I went back to the Raw Honey. I just bought a big jar of Raw Local Honey, and now that energy I was missing is back. Honey is a slow energy burn for the body. It doesn't pick you up and slam you down like Sugar would. Tastes great too!
