Hello,
What I mean by deeper levels is, as you shared...your
food issues have many origins and sometimes it is food
choices, other times it is emotional needs or even a
spiritual hunger you are trying to feed. Some of us
*stuff* our feelings and feed a part of us which is
already *over-stuffed*...
I have found that
The Master Cleanse gives me *time*
to reflect on the aspects of my life which need some
attention. I do not have a problem with feeling
deprived of food but I have discovered that I use
food to dampen my psychic tension and to numb feelings
which I do not wish to think about. So, akin to cleaning
out my emotional and spiritual *drawers*, I encourage
myself to look at each feeling or memory of an event
as it emerges or rises to the conscious surface of my
mind. This allows healing on many levels to occur and
without the cover of food to stifle that response, I
feel like I am gaining control and a greater maturity.
One ally I have found in healing these issues is the
authoress, Geneen Roth.

You may have to dig around in a bookstore or online to
find info you resonate with but there is lots. I have
also used other modalities to form new coping skills.
Certainly drinking more water and keeping hydrated has
changed my habit of eating when actually I was just
thirsty. I have learned to assuage boredom by bathing
or meditating and a host of other behaviors which MCing
has opened my mind too in lieu of grabbing the first
thing my eyes light upon in the fridge and my inner
child says, that will do....
I have used
The Master Cleanse to successfully quiet
so much of my mental chatter and have become more
successful at developing a plan to treat my body and
mind much better than I have in the past. It has also
been a bit of a grieving process too since there are
behaviors I have done for years which I made the choice
to let go. For example, I find I no longer drink alcohol
as much which has not set so well with my friends, but
there again, I have developed the inner strength to comfort
myself and my friends and allow it to be okay to make choices
which include not drinking alcohol in order to have *fun*.
I am going to be toasting in the New Year with a lemonade
and now none of my friends are discomforted by this and I
actually feel empowered by it. Physically, my goal is
to keep my metabolism going, so like adding air to a
fire, I *work* at getting in enough exercise so my
physical body is feeling better too.
Each of us brings to the cleanse a mish-mash of needs
on many levels and with time and certainly with the
longer cleanses, you will find yourself healing in
ways you were not even aware of. The cleanse is very
powerful in that way, and as the effect is accumulative,
the choices you are making now, *will* affect your future
and your health.
