IT is completely ridiculous what we have to go through to try to find a supplement for calcium that is not made with carbonate or oxide as a major part of the calcium (and therefore completely unabsorbable) EVEN THE EXPENSIVE NAME BRANDS.
And the studies for years have shown that aspartate and orotate are much more absorbable, yet try to find a brand that actually uses these forms.
No other mineral or vitamin is this hard to try to find in usuable form.
I'm not interested in using a combination of lemon juice and calcium hydroxide powder every day, and most people do need something in a capsule that is not these messy liquids. But just TRY to find a capsule or tablet that actually uses the aspartate or orotate forms.
Do the manufactureres think we are stupid? This is even the following well-known brands, none of which have any type of calcium that is not mostly unabsorbable crap:
Nature's Way
Country LIfe
Twin Lab
Life Extention
Source Naturals
Soloray
Etc, Etc

Find out who owns the supplement companies and you will most likely find your answer as to why they are NOT marketed in absorbable form.
It should be a crime...
It IS getting harder to find and buy REAL, whole food and absorbable supplements. My wife and kids thinks I am nuts fermenting and culturing foods, making kombucha, not worrying any about the dirt on food taken out of the garden etc. etc.

This is a reply to # 773,386Most people are completely naive as far which forms are more absorbable -
therefore manufacturers go for the cheap option (oxide, carbonates) because they can get away with it.
You probably need to step up to more trustworthy manufacturers to find better options like pure encapsulation, thorne research, metagenics, allergy research, standard process - however these are not easy to find since they are typically professional formulas for NDs and the like.
Calcium citrate agrees very well with me and it's good absorbable form (citrate forms may be easier to find)
There are some cheaper alternatives but the "you get what you pay for" may apply.

This is a reply to # 773,526I did hear that about Calcium Citrate as well.
If possible, I would get my calcium from plant sources- and make sure im also getting enough Vitamin D and magnesium to help absorb it into the body.
Lots of vegetables actually have the most ultimate absorbable Calcium type in them.
Did you guys know that Calcium Carbonate actually HURTS the colon nerve endings, and deadens them over time?

Where can one go to find out the best forms and sources of supplements?
Thats something that Ive been wondering for a very long time.
What happens if one takes the inabsorbable form?
Is it just excreted?

This is a reply to # 773,745Just read a few studies on the issue and nearly all of them suggest supplementing with calcium carbonate vs. citrate because there is little difference in absorbability and its much cheaper.
Infact, more cal citrate was found excreted in the urine that was the carbonate.
Can anyone point me towards some information detailing why citrate is a superior form?
Or a general site dealing with the absorbtion of supplements?
