Your mention of Betaine HCL put me to mind of
Hulda Clark , mostly because I first came onto the use of Betaine HCL from having first learned about the Clark
Liver Flush protocol. I got the impression that perhaps you may have come onto it's use through some other avenue or other forum here that uses HCL for reasons other than what Clark promotes. Whether you have or not is not a point I'm driving at, just trying to portray some of the thoughts that came to mind upon reading your post.
Even though I'm presently pretty well sold on the benefits of proper liver flushing, at the same time I'm a bit putoff with the manner in which many people, Clark just one among the many, provide their advice (and write their books) in a way that, maybe was not intentional on their part BUT still makes it easy for readers to assume that there is a simple and direct line between where they are in their present state of less than good health..... and good health. For instance, from having read Hulda's first book - Cure for All Diseases, it appeared to me that there was a straight line path to eliminating any and all allergies I may suffer from - just follow her
Liver Flush protocol. In my case, I don't suffere from those things that many people have been conditioned to loosley think of and talk about as "allergy". Years ago, I once thought that allergies were mainly limited to people with hayfever and the like, people who sneeze when somebody mows the lawn, people who get itchy eyes during the high-pollen seasons of the year.... and that's it. Since then I've come to think that "allergy" is really a highly generic term and as such, we are or can be cosidered allergic to pretty much anything under and including the sun, some things may be highly allergic, other things mildly allergic. Of recent I've read various places that things some people refer to as "
food sensitivity " is loosley another way of saying "allergy". At the same time, I'm not convinced that my understandig and use of the term -allergy, is sufficient, so as a result, I've sort of become really conservative in even using the term anymore.
I've had long-time problems with what is loosley known as acid stomach / GERD / heartburn.... call it whatever. There are a whole bunch of things I've found over the years that sometimes make this condition both better and worse, to include, a million and one things that I can elect (or not) to expose my body to, especially internally in the forms of what society has been conditioned to loosley think of as "food", as well as external influences (environment, stress and at times, seemingly the phase of the moon and other celstial bodies) also seem to sometimes have impact on my stomach acid .......it seems to go in cycles and I'll be bleeped if I can figure out what the key to this pattern is. (a grain of sarcasm coupled with a potential grain of reality).
Long story short, oranges (among other native fruits, nuts, vegetables) are among the relatively few remaining forms of natural nutrition; granted, it's become nearly impossible for such to still be grown and harvested under totally natural environmental condtions. It still seems to reason that eating such should not normally cause a negative reaction, like acid stomach upon eating an orange, but then again, there are so many variables going on inside each of us, the path to knowing the answer is not as stright-line as we would like it to be. Is it really and truly normal for anything to happen the way it was once considered to be "normal?".... in other words, it seems to be that widespead abnormalities have become rather normal. Perhaps you have an allergy to oranges, and furthermore perhaps evidence of this allergy sometimes manifests in acid stomach? Some time preparing and doing
Liver Flushing may provide some beneficial results for you.
Not sure how much this may help you but if nothing else may help you to see past the tree and be more aware of the forrest. Good luck.
