I unlike others think that it is a vital point to understand because it is the pro-life whole stance, and also the reason why abortion is an issue in the first place. Before I answer it I know what you are going to say so you can spare the lecture of how vile, cruel, heartless, insensitive, heinous, despicable, awful, less then human, the list goes on I am.
Fist off the above poster 59245 said exactly what I wanted to say.
Super, you need to somehow comprehend, seriously think about it: Not everyone follows the bible. Sad for you, but so true. Even people that do follow the bible follow it differently then you. This concept is vital for you to grasp to continue reading.
There is no right and wrong, it is all relative. There are rules saying it’s right or wrong, but some criminals will believe they did nothing wrong. Are they right? To them they are right. Just like I am right with my pro-choice stance for me and you are right with your pro-life stance for you.
It’s related to our conscience, how an action makes us feel. I think legal rules are very separate from a personal right and wrong.
The example about other cultures is excellent. It reminded me of my African lit class when we learned about colonization. In one tribe if twins were born it was an abomination and they were taken to the forest and left there to die. This was not only right but necessary for the tribe to exist. When the colonizers came and realized what happened they saved the twins from death, and this to the tribal people was a horrible sin and they believed that the evil spirits would kill them all now, and in a way they did. So it was terribly wrong for them. For the colonizers it was completely right. Who’s right? Who’s wrong? I don’t even know.
Another example, same class actually happened when we read Heart Of Darkness. It is now considered a racist novel and therefore is degraded as literature and Conrad is thought of as an awful racist. I had this very same conversation with my Professor that I am having with you. Conrad did not set out to write a racist novel that’s just how people thought back then, I’m sure he didn’t think about it and it wasn’t written in hate, just normal everyday though. If it was written today then it would be arguably a racist novel. See the difference? I think I got through to my prof, and hopefully I can get through to you too, though I don’t bet on it.
There you have it the statement:
Right, is there even such a thing as right or wrong? If I think something is wrong...maybe you don't or the other way around is completely true, but I was not the one who originally wrote it I don’t think.
Generally people can agree, that’s why we have laws, but some people don’t agree that’s why they break the rules. This is also the reason why abortion is such a debated issue. It is an issue because wrong and right is relative. If it wasn’t and everyone thought the same way it wouldn’t be an issue.
