This afternoon I was complaining once again about the huge number of
liver stones I have passed (over 5000!) and no end seems to be in sight. My doctor speculated that perhaps the
parasites had something to do with the large number of stones. We were wondering if the stones formed around
parasite fragments much the same way as an oyster will make a pearl around a grain of sand. After all,
parasites are toxic and irritating, while the cholesterol is naturally produced in the liver. Although the stones can cause problems when too many of them block the biliary ducts and spill into the gallbladder, the liver may consider them less of a problem than parasites.
I know that not all people with
liver stones have parasites, but for those who are still passing hundreds of stones after many flushes, this might be something to consider.
