Mary, if you are constipated during pregnancy, that can create a toxic buildup throughout your system that your developing baby is exposed to. It's extremely important not to allow yourself to become constipated while you are pregnant.
You should have at least one good BM every day at the minimum. If not, I suggest that you consider taking an enema before bedtime on any day when your bowels don't move naturally. Not a chemical disposable type like a Fleet, but an old fashioned hospital style enema using an enema bag and a saline or mild soap solution at 103 degrees F at preparation time.
For the salt solution, mix one teaspoon of either
Sea Salt or non-iodized
table salt for each pint of water, or 4 teaspoons for a full bag. For a soap solution, stir a bar of Ivory soap in the water until it turns milky in color. Don't use liquid soap, other than castile soap especially formulated for enema use.
Best wishes for a safe and comfortable pregnancy,
Valerie
