It might have worked better if you had started out homeschooling, then you would all be used to it and working your way from easy stuff in 1st grade to the things they are studying now. Also it might have helped if you had been anticipating teaching them instead of having it thrust on you when the school suddenly burned down. Next time they should warn you!!!!! ha ha
My mother homeschooled all 3 of us children. I was homeschooled all 12 years. When we moved overseas my brother and sister went to a small private Christian school. (I was already in college at that time). They really enjoyed and benefitted from that. My brother has the least homeschooling of all of us (8th-12th grades in the private school), and I think it has been good for him. He is extremely sociable, plus attending class forces him to be more disciplined. My mom had a tough time getting him to do the work and stay on task!
It can go either way, and it is different for everybody. I can't imagine attending school, it seems like such a waste of time! There are a lot of factors in the schooling equation, to be sure.
But yes, hats off to my mother, she did an excellent job homeschooling us for a total of 15 years!!! Thank you! (And my father, he supervised my studies for 1 year).
