I can't tell you an exact statistic but I do know that it is extremely rare to contract Hep C through sex. I have done some research on this subject because my mother has Hep C. Most often it must be passed through some type of blood to blood contact. I work at a family planning clinic so I will see if we have any info. that gives specific percentages or statistics tomorrow and will get back to you. Also, I am sure you may have considered this but perhaps you should be checked for other sexually transmitted infections in the next 4 to 6 weeks and get an HIV test. HIV tests should be done about 6 weeks after exposure for a baseline reading of antibodies and then again 6 months later. Those with Hep C are considered high risk for HIV because, minus sexual intercourse, the modes of transmission are the same. Of course, not knowing how this person you were with got Hep C or anything about their history, I may be assuming alot. You obviously know more about them than I but just in case...

I was very afraid I would pass my Hep C to my husband. Come to find out I didn't. I also believe I have had Hep C for over 20 years and none of my previous sex partners have it either. It is very rare. Of course if sex involved blood contact, that may be a different story.

I've had HCV for ten years and have been with my husband for seven. I had only found out months before we meet. We have had two children. Because I was told it was all right; I breastfeed both my children for over a year. Both have been tested and are negative. My husband is regularly tested and he is also negative. We are careful. But of all the research I have done, Usaully HCV is contacted during sex if there is another STD present. Low percentage for monogamous relationships. And if it was once and no condom was used than you should go get tested. Just to be safer than sorry. And possibly sick...I am sorry, I don't know ligit statistics. But could offer own experience.

hi jac, i have had hep c for nearly 30 years, but only diagnosed about 3 years ago. (Hate dr's, never go but found out accidently during medical checkup). Two marriages and a few partners to boot and none of them have hep c. I have 3 children that i have breast feed and no hep c. good luck

i have boyfriend with hepatitis c and we are having unprotected sex for 3yrs. i was tested a week ago negative.

I just found out yesterday that I have contracted Hep C. I am pregnant and my Dr says that the baby has 5% chance of getting the disease.
