Fairly common on the eyelids, xanthomas are yellow, soft and slightly raised non-contagious bumps made of cholesterol deposits. They occur both in men (33 per cent) and women (40 per cent) who have elevated triglyercides and cholesterol levels.
Another sign of high cholesterol levels in the blood are xanthelasma - yellow patches on the eyelids, common in diabetics.
