Apparently this Lexan/polycarbonate plastic, used in Nalgene bottles and the receptacle bottles for distillers (Recycling symbol #7), as well as MANY OTHER items, contains and releases Bisphenol-A (BPA).
I am not comfortable with this. I haven't ever used this plastic until I got a distiller. I will be switching NOW to something else. I will look for glass, long-term but even a ceramic casserole dish will do until then.

This is a reply to # 428,545Well, therein lies the problem. I, too, have been given an impression that they are "safe." Perhaps they are "safer" but apparently they aren't actually safe.
2 things:
-California had a bill (that wasn't passed) trying to stop some polycarbonates particularly baby bottles and things that babies use? Not sure, I think you can find the details in the article link I posted.
-I'm skeptical that any plastic can truly be safe. Really.

This is a reply to # 428,548The fact that it is plastic is all I need to know (although that is a handy webpage, thanks for posting the link). I want to avoid plastic as MUCH as possible. Which includes not having my drinking water or leftovers be in plastic.

This is a reply to # 428,543be safe, use glass. i improvised and now i use a large glass bottle that originally contained sparkling water, and a wooly sock as a cushion/holder. i have 2 and they've lasted me several years.
