Molly Bloom
What kind of jewelry? I fuse dichroic, and am working with precious metal clay. I just made a necklace out of fine silver, that looks like an open zipper! fun. Jewelry is totally my thing. The picture I posted of my jewelry is old stuff. My style has evolved quite a bit from then. My problem, though, is I'm very eclectic, and have a hard time selling. I've put boobs and penises on my metal work, and for some odd reason, no one wants to wear that around their necks!!
This is 1/8" window glass. I cut each piece by hand, but have gotten really fast at it. Then I tumble in a rock tumbler, only using water (the glass makes it's own slurrry).
Then I assemble with a product from Loctite, UV adhesive, which works glass-to-glass. It only works in the sun, but when it's hot, I can build really fast. The bond is instant. It's the same stuff they use for car windshield repair.
The base is resin, which I got at TAP Plastic. This was the last piece I had, and I thought the wave would look good on it, but I need to find some other bases. I lost out on the top award for a show because the judges thought that the clear bases detracted from the piece. Instead of being defensive, I tried to learn from the experience. One of the judges was from MOMA! I did end up winning the Children's Choice Award(I got 97% of 1200 kids votes!), which I love. Kid's really get all those little pieces, you know? Won $50, whoo hoo.
Anyway, I could go on and on. I don't know what your medium is, but I'm here if you want to discuss!! Love that.
Cheers, Molly
