Frank Bollinger
I used to work for Dr. Bob Beck as Electronic Tech. and Assistant Engineer and made Early BT-5 units. The first BT-5 Brain Tuners Dr. Beck made himself and refined an elegant design, he became ill with a vertebral stinosis sitting on the bench working all day and I started making the BT-5 units in the late 1980s. Dr. Beck also designed some magnetometers for the Navy and had a secret clearence at that time. I was with Dr. Beck when we read the electrotherapy was helping HIV in studies at Albert Einstein College in an issue of
Science News, the good ole days.
After some design changes in the 1990s and a different manufacturer eventually SOTA took over making a different version and there was a BT-6 a BT-7 model changes.. There was never a Model BT-1 BT-2 or 3 etc. Bob thought the BT-5 sounded cool. When I first met Dr. Beck I thought he was a crackpot with the astounding stories etc. but he consistantly found errors in electronics in designed myself and was extremely inteligent and the BT-5 cured a migrain I had for three days, and then I was convinced. I looked up his patent on the strobe for cameras 1949 yep there it was he was not joking about his acomplishments.
When I found out the original specifications were changed I started to make the old BT-5 units again from left over parts that I had, some of the units may have been assembled by Dr. Beck that I have because my soldering techniwue is different.
If anyone would like to acquire an original BT-5 unit just as it was with the blue box I have some but I am running out of the blue boxes. This is not a retro design of the BT-5 it is the original in all respects. I used to assemble 100 of them a week at the peak of my producton. The next version was assembled by robotics and the design Bob told me was not as power efficeint.
I am selling them for $150 each and shipping it comes with the original headset electrode and original instructions but clearer copies I went back to Omni magazine and had clear manual to copy. I am working on the original cassette tape Beck lecture that was used to promote the BT-5 and came with it. I may have 12 of them at this time. The BT-5 was made and sold by Dr. Beck in the 1980s in very few numbers until I started making them in the late 1980s early 1990s.
Originally the BT-5 sold for about $250 to $450 in those days depending on the distributer, I think Volker Rhisto had the best price at that time.
These are all tested and garanteed and I made them myself in good ole USA so I can fix or replace them if they get damaged. My email is vertualfrank@yahoo.com
