I'm a complete kook for foreign films. The more exotic and faraway the better.
Some of my favorites that I can recall:
China: Raise the Red Lantern, The Last Emperor
Korea: Chunghyan
Iran: Children of Heaven
India: Satyan Shivam Sundaram
Italy: Amarcord
Norway?: Babbette's Feast
And many others that I can't remember the name. If anyone can recommend any good ones, let me know.

Run Lola, Run and Heaven, both by the same German director, the second from the last script from famed Polish director who did "Decalogue." Awesome movies.

I, too, love Foreign films!
Let's see...my all time favourite is Fellini's 8 1/2 (Shelleycat you HAVE to see it...yum...and as a companion piece - after you watch the Fellini one - see 'Stardust Memories' by Woody Allen - it's totally great and was clearly inspired by Fellini's 8 1/2 - both B&W)
Wings of Desire - Wim Wenders - Germany (Alikat I think you'd like this one if you haven't already seen it...maybe...?)
Amelie - of course! Sooo beautiful! And don't you just love those first images of her as a little girl...didn't we all hang cherries on our ears...put white glue on our palm until it dries and peel it off...YES!
Celebration and The Idiots - not everyone's taste but WOW...super intense and a Dogma95 films (where everything has to be REAL, Natural lighting, no extra music unless it's IN the movie, real sets...etc. Great concept...but the films themselves are FILLED with substance...you don't even notice that it's all natural... Definitely Out There! In The Idiots a group of people (born in the 60's for sure) get together and try to find their Inner Idiot! WOW. Danish, I think...
L'Aventurra - Italy - Antonioni (sp?) - Beautiful 60's black and white with gorgeous scenery, haunting events on the Meditteranean and beautiful women!
I recently saw a really great Czech film about old people and keeping those crazy dreams alive - can't remember the name, rats.
The Cuckoo - recent film about a Lapplander, Russian and Finn all coming together in an interesting situation.
Hmmmm...others aren't coming to me, unfortunately! I know that there must be more French films but, alas, my memory fails me at the moment!

MoreThis is a reply to # 396,974Love foreign movies myself too. I saw one on Alitalia Airlines about five years ago when I was moving home from Taiwan via a visit to Spain. We ended up on Alitalia and watched the most hilarious movie I have ever seen. When I got back to America, I searched all over their web site to try to find out the name. I did a web search to no avail. Still wondering four years later, I took up the search again and finally found it! Unfortunately, I haven't found it available for sale anywhere online.

Yes, Alison, you mentioned two wonderful films I love -"Swept Away" and my favorite of last year - "The Man Without a Past." Have you all seen "Swimming Pool", recent one with the haunting Charlotte Rampling? I read about her - she had Depression for years, then put out much deeper movies. I want to see all her stuff now! And Shelleycat - "La Cage aux Folles" - so hilarious!
