Wasp/hornet sting - swelling itching...

I got a hornet or wasp bite, maybe they are bees, I don't know. Not a regualr honey bee, smaller and slenderer. They live in a hole in the outside wall of my house near ground level.
I had gotten along fine with them all summer! They must be getting sleepy and made a mistake... I forgive them.
It was just a quick sting on my forearm where theere is not much meat, I brushed it off instinctively. It only stung a little, but later it swelled up to about 4" long and 2" wide along the bone in my forearm.
This is day three or four now, and it is still getting very itchy. I put H202 on in right away and that helped, but only the first time. I suppose some calamine lotion would help keep the itching down? [I don't have any here yet].
Anyone know of the right herbs to use? I would make a poultice and tie or tape it on.
Any other ideas? Its not soooo bad, but the itching and the lump is bothersome.

This is a reply to # 388,989i always immediately apply baking soda to any bite i get .
put a dab in hand and add a few drops water, paste onto the sting/ will immediately start drawing off toxin and decrease swelling ,itching etc.
i keep on hand pascalite clay this stuff is incredible!!
we have brown recluse and hobo spiders here enmasse in this state.
and the bites can be horrific/
i apply a dab of pascalite clay directly to the bites,
a couple times a day and then i swab a dot of tea tree oil and oil of oregano with olive oil on the area on bite and surrounding it.
it is probably too late to help you now..
but consider keeping those items in your *med supply *

Baking Soda is amazing for the right things.
Ya, it was too late to be helped, and time did the trick as usual, but I will definately have more options next time, right here ready to be used.
I suppose the Epsom Salts soak in warm water - the arm itself in strong solution - would also draw it out [if it was early on after the bite]?

This is a reply to # 388,991It neutralizes the acid and also helps to draw it out. =) just take a fresh potato, shred a little bit, and hold it on top like a bandage.

This is a reply to # 388,989Since you asked for herbs, a most excellent herb is plantain, which more than likely grows on your lawn. Chew up a leaf in your mouth (don't eat, just chew), and put it on the bite. Wrap it with tape or gauze or whatever you have to keep the green stuff on. Works wonders.
Hopefully it goes without saying to gather tha plants with respect, and to gather from areas that have not been polluted. 50'+ away from roads, further if it's a busy road, and definitely not from a "ChemLawn" treated lawn...
