Hi Shelley!
I had a quick question for you - my Ileo Caecal valve (I guess it's the valve that goes between the small and large intestine, but you probably already knew that) has been out of balance for awhile. My chiropractor did tests and determined that was the problem. So now food sits in the small intestine and rots, and I get constant headaches and fatigue. I think it happened because of all the parsely I was eating to alkalize my body...I ate like bunches of stems everyday, and my chiropractor told me that plant cellulose can jam up the valve. In any event, the more parsely I ate, the more the problem got worse. So now I've stopped doing that, but I still feel terrible.
So how can I correct this problem?

MoreThis is a reply to # 381,551A combination of safer fiber - P&B shakes - digestive enzymes and salt water flushes in the morning should do the trick just fine. :)
Be sure to massage the abdomen during the salt water flushes, and consider applying moist heat, like castor oil packs, to the area.
To take care of the possible infection/rot factor, up your intake of apple cider vinegar or grapefruit seed oil.
And for your future efforts to alkalinize, get a JUICER! :) and make potassium broth.

MoreThis is a reply to # 381,551I was just reading today that the ICV can be put out of whack by the incorrect posture whilst going to the toilet. The correct posture is the squatting posture which all of mankind used until the invention of the toilet.
Eating Parsely as a cause of ICV failure sounds dubious.
Dr John Chienne compared the volume of fecal matter from going to the toilet sitting and squatting. His finding was that less fecal matter was eliminated when sitting - in other words everytime we go to the toilet, a little bit gets left behind in our colon.
What can you do?
Adopt the correct posture when going to the toilet. Ideally you should be squatting as in the traditional posture. If this is not possible then you can try inserting a step underneath the toilet so that you are almost squatting.

Renew Life, the company that sells ParaGone and other bowel cleansing and digestive products, also sells a squatting stool. I bought one about three months ago to help with my constipation. I must say it works as advertised. I am sure any kind of stool would work, but this one tucks around the toilet so your legs can sit atop of it and thus put them in a squatting position. Much more does come out this way. It feels really weird to sit like this at first, but once you realize how much it helps, it is a great tool to aid in the process.
Hundreds of vendors sell Renew Life products. They provide the following information about this stool on their official site:
Life-STEP supports the body in a natural and anatomically correct position.
• The modern toilet does not position the body properly for elimination.
• The natural position for humans is to squat, as our ancestors did.

This is a reply to # 381,580These are good. But the wrap-around kind wouldn't fit for me. I use a step stool. It's just the right height. I put as much of my weight on it as feels right.
Not quite like going in the woods, but it's OK ;-)

Raymond, Pinkcat, can you guys tell me how high your respective squating stools are? (if its not too much trouble).
Its just that I tried to use an ad-hoc plastic stool and it was *way* too high. Also no stability whatsoever. I'm wondering if I just need to find something smaller or if the LIfeStep has something special in its design to make it a stable platform.
I would very much like to join the land of the squatting!
(I don't think they sell LifeStep in the UK).

The LifeStep that I have measures 7 1/2" high, is 15" across the front (of the toilet) and is 13 1/2" deep (sides fit to the left and right of the toilet).
My wife and I are dramatically different heights and weight (6'0, 200 versus 5'4, 110) and it puts both of us in the squatting position. I think the height of the stool is what really helps. It really works though. When I use a bathroom that does not have this stool, I never feel like I completely emptied. With the stool, you can feel it pulling from your belly and it just keeps on coming.
Don't they sell any Renew Life products in the U.K.? I know there are quite a few websites that ship internationally. This does not have much weight to it at all so it shouldn't cost too much to ship.

Let's start with the toilet. My seat is 15 and 3/4 inches high.
My step stool, which was only a couple of dollars at a housewares store, is 9 and 1/4 inches high.
So they are separated by 6 and 1/2 inches.
If one or the other of your pieces is too high or too low (to get the right spacing for you), it makes the squatting too awkward (too little separation) or not effective (too much separation).
The surface of the step stool is almost 11 inches by almost 14 inches. It's very stable because each leg has a 90 degree corner. So it's as if it has 8 feet instead of 4.
So, how do you measure up? ;-)

Thanks Pinkcat, that was very kind of you.
My toilet is 16.75" and the plastic stool I have is 9.5" - so very similar measurements to you.
That makes me think it must be the shape of the stool which is to blame. I don't think it is wide enough or stable enough to allow a comfortable position.

This is a reply to # 381,612Sometimes it's the smallest things. Do you put your stool as close to the toilet as possible? Also, you've got to be primitive about this -- no trousers, no underwear around your ankles or you'll be restricted from positioning your bare feet comfortably. I think I said my stool was about 14 inches wide? (I forget) But it's just wide enough.
When I was little I read a story about two new college roommates. One girl was very upset that she found footprints on the toilet seat. She called her mum who told her that her Indian roommate was used to squatting, rather than sitting. I don't remember what very forward-thinking magazine this appeared in, but I thought it was an excellent revelation. If only I'd stuck to the perching (I didn't know for stools).
Probably you'll be able to find one of those life stools on line. My colon therapist has them in her bathrooms, but honestly, I find them spindly. They put you in position, but I can't really put as much weight on them as on my stool. Perhaps with practice. But I'm not in her bathroom that long or that many times!
