Hey everyone, this will be my last post for the time being but i know i mentioned previously that i was thinking about getting it surgically removed because it is the only thing that seems logical by now, after several years of suffering. I have tried everything from protopic, to fucidin, to prevex, to efudex, to lip shaves, to laser surgery and nothing works. Nothing is permanent, although fucidin seems to help relieve the symptoms for the day which means id have to apply every evening which is not how i want to live my life. I also used efudex and it helped but did not cure 100%. It made my life more enjoyable by curing several small areas that peeled but only reduced the thickness of the other areas, in other words, it peels at a slower rate and is more thin when peeling, easier to rub off or remove. All in all, efudex probably cured about 40% in total. It also made the entire lips look real without discolor and the creases in the lips are back. Even when peeling the creases are there which makes it look more normal (proof that that the thicker areas are now thin). I recently saw my derm and he was happy to see the improvement and even said they look like lips again, more smooth and 'lucious' you can say. Still, they have their problems.
LETS PUT IT THIS WAY.
Realistically, there is no cure, if there was we'd all know about it and be free from our symptoms. Today I saw my family doctor (also my next door neighbour) and he told me that he has only seen one other case that was similar and the person was also of the same age (early twenties). He said he refered him to a specialist in plastic surgery and the person is now fine because he had the area surgically removed. Well, this confirms my theory that this is the only way to go about this problem. It is a skin disease and picture it like cancer, you have to surgically remove it to rid of the problem. It is the same with us. So he made me a referal and until then I suggest you all look into it also. I will post with a reply after my appointment which will probably be in a few months. This is a reply to # 376,058Good luck to you. I know how it feels because I've suffered with peeling lips for about 8 years now and I am 22. It's a really terrible and mind-bogling conditon and I believe that many factors are to blame. My lips just got bad again after feeling a lot better for about a month and it was a real disapointment. I've learned the best thing to do is to not loose your cool and don't let it get you down - I think that's half the battle! It can be so hard not to pick off the dead skin when it looks so unsightly and feel really rough - however I really think that the lips need to be left alone but constantly applied with a natural balm. I've been using the All Natural Chapstick which has mostly been good. I really want to treat this naturally.
I really do believe it's a reaction to a problem(s) so I've now accepted it might be a life-long condition that had to be kept under control unless/until I find the route problems(s). There may be a psycological factor at play for sure.

My lips are much better. Completely? No.
And do I still have to take care of them? Yes.
Here is what I've been doing the past few months...
I'VE NOT (IF RARELY), PICKED, BITTEN OR LICKED THEM.
IVE USED NATURAL CHAPSTICKS, WHICH HAVE HEMP OIL IN AND NO CHEMICALS.
AS TIME HAS GONE ON, IVE NOT NEEDED TO APPLY SO OFTEN.
APPLY WHENEVER DRY, BUT YOU CAN AS MUCH AS YOU LIKE I THINK IF THE BALM IS NATURAL.
THERE ARE HOWEVER BAD DAYS, BUT THE BEST THING IS TO NOT LOOSE IT, KEEP COOL ABOUT IT.
DO NO OBSESS OVER IT! THAT IS THE KEY, COZ I THINK A HUGE ELEMENT OF THIS CONDITION IS MENTAL.
I HAVE ALSO CHANGED MY DIET RADICALLY, BUT I DO NOT KNOW HOW COINCIDENTAL THAT IS!
PLEASE ASK ANY QUESTIONS

This is a reply to # 376,058one last thing, as i mentioned that this was a skin disease i would like to point out that my reasoning for saying this is because I understand biology (recent university graduate) as well as the drugs i was using. If you look into our disease as well as the drugs that work, like, say, fucidin, or efudex, and look at the biological workings of the drugs and how they interact with our cells then you can see it is a problem of the skin and not oils. I state oils/supplemnts can help relieve but not pessimistically because thats what they do, they relieve, they are not permanent. If you educate yourself on the cellular functioning within your lips (the multiple layers etc...) and the drugs we use then you can see how and why it is a skin disease that may require surgery.- Re: notice to all Wee_Man_Chan_from_Japan

MoreThis is a reply to # 376,068So this surgery is to cut out the skin right? Then connect the healthy skin to the otherside of healthy skin. Wouldnt that shrink your lips or you going to get a skin graft?

This is a reply to # 376,075i am a 24 yr old female.
i have had this condition for the past 10 yrs.
its the same symptoms like you all, peeling lips that go white when wet,
they get drier n peel in abt 4-5 days.
after having tried everything possible from alopathic to homeopathcic to all kinds of creams
i also took injections from my derm
but nothing has helped any b bit
the only thing that can make our lives easier is something that peels the skin easiily so that we are a always on day 1 of peeling.
this i found by chance,
i used to use vaseline at bedtime on the 4th day and peel the next day
and i use v lil vaseline to dab on my lips at day time
now one day i cud not find my vaseline tube
so i applied this cream lying on the table..
it was one of those small tubes one gets complimentary at hotels.
i was on my day 1, and even with vaseline i cant peel on day 1
now i applied this cream in morning
just before leaving for work my lips felt dry (as the cream had been soaked up)
so i applied some more n left..
when i came home in evening n washed my face the thin layer of skin that had developed on my lips peeled off so easily as it does on the 4th day!
i was so amazed..
ok so i tried it again the next day , n it works wonders,,
i use to peel every alternate day as i find the 2nd day the most comfortable.
the cream is called 'Morning Nectar' by 'Biotique'.
its a indian company n i live here so i could get it easily..
i searched the net and its also avaible for world wide shiipping on many websites..
you delfy shud give this a try if u like being on day 1 and 2 of peeling..
and u dont have to push , the kin slides off so easily..
and most importantly, plz dont get depressed, its not worth it
i have also been thru it and belive me its harder for a girl.. btu now i feel all those days of crying n hoping.. its not worth it
just live your life... there are worse things than this..
