It's a tad discouraging to read negative posts about vitamin C, and
supplements in general, from people
who have NO personal experience in
taking vitamins -- especially when
those naysayers are authors who are
trying to scare people into buying
their book. Alas, we live in that kind of world.
The spirit of Linus Pauling must be
distressed to see how his legacy
has been completely subverted --
turned around 180 degrees -- by his
current successors. It's as if the
Mother Teresa Foundation was now
promoting topless bars and prostitution. Shameful, Shameful,
Shameful!
I read Linus Pauling's book, CANCER
AND VITAMIN C back in the mid- 1970's. In 1977, at age 37, I gave
up drinking booze, eating meat and
processed foods, and began exercising regularly. I also began
taking between 6,000 and 10,000 mg
of vitamin C EVERY DAY. Last year,
in 2003, I upped my daily ante to
14,000 mg a day (14 grams).
The result? I haven't been sick since 1977. No colds, no flu, no
high blood pressure, no serious
illnesses, no degenerative conditions -- none of it! Nada.
I give most of the credit for my
excellent health to my daily dosage
of vitamin C. It keeps my immune
system so STRONG, that viruses and
harmful bacteria are destroyed
immediately.
Now I'm 64. I'm surrounded by neighbors and friends and relatives
who are BIG-TIME sick: diabetes,
cancer, Alzheimer's, heart conditions, Hepatitis, candida,
IBS,
Arthritis -- the list goes on
and on. And all of my peers are
taking handfuls of pharamaceuticals.
They've got pacemakers, breasts and
prostates that have been removed,
tubes in their bladders -- a whole
host of expensive technology either
in their bodies or waiting just
inside the doors to their apts.
They sit around the pool eating
barbecue, French fries, ice cream,
and swigging Diet-Pepsi till it's
time to break out the Jack Daniels.
Would any of them try taking large
doses of vitamin C? Not a chance.
Would any of them consider making
major changes in their eating regimen? Don't be silly!
Sometimes, I think I have fallen down the rabbit hole. Like E.T., I'm
waiting for the spaceship to come take
me Home. There is a deep-down
perversity in human nature -- a
masochism that causes people to be
their own worst enemies. People
would literally rather die, rather
live their last years in great
pain and discomfort, instead of
making the simple changes that
would heal them, body, soul, and mind.
You can choose to believe the author
below who says that anything more
than the minimum dose of vitamin C
is likely to be harmful. You can
believe the pharamaceutical companies who told you that Vioxx
and its tens-of-thousands of clones,
are wonderful drugs. Or you can believe me, a healthy man in the
winter of my lifetime, who has no
book to sell, and no agenda.
As I always say, trust your intuition.
Blessings,
