I was tested at planned parenthood both swab and blood. The results were positive for both hsv 1 and 2. I have not had an outbreak or anything. I am still in shock from the results. I am curious as to why someone would want to go through the trouble of paying so much money for the University of Washington to do a Western Blot test. What is it? Is it possible that I will get a different result from this test? I'm so confused...

MoreThis is a reply to # 373,645ok, now I'm confused with ur post. If you've never had an outbreak then what did they swab exactly? did you have a sore of any kind?
If the blood test says you are positive and you haven't had any symptoms then it means you can still transmit it to to others through a-symptomatic shedding.

MoreThis is a reply to # 373,645They all test for the same things. The name only refers to the method the sample is subjected to in order to reveal anti-bodies. ( a positive test in your case) Labs are set up differently to handle different testing methods.It does not affect the results. Especially when you have a positive. The blood test you underwent could of been tested by western blot method. It is a blood test.
