Dear Dawn,
Different sources recommend different amounts of vitamin C.
The FDA says that Americans need
only 60 mg per day. That is enough
to keep you from getting scurvy, if
you're otherwise healthy.
Other sources suggest that 1,000 mg
a day is enough. Many pure vegans
believe in taking no vitamin C supplements. They feel that fresh
fruits and veggies provide them with
adequate amounts of C.
And then there are a few of us old
codgers who recommend large daily
doses of vitamin C. I take 14 grams
(14,000 mg) of vitamin C in the form
of sodium ascorbate crystals every
day. That's 1 gram for every 10 lbs
of body weight. I weigh 140 lbs.
At 64, I'm in excellent health.
Until last week, I hadn't had the flu or a cold in more than 25 years.
Somehow, a virus got through my
shield of health protocols, and
gave me several unpleasant days. I
took 50 grams of Vitamin C on the
first bad day, and that seemed to
lessen the symptoms. The cold hurt
my pride more than anything. I learned that no one is bulletproof,
when it ocmes to congestion.
It's up to you to choose, Dawn.
Trust your intuition.
Blessings,
Owen
