Interesting question!
My rule for swimming pools is if I can smell the chlorine before I even get into the water, I don't get into the water. A friend of mine uses one of those roaming pool cleaners, the kind you just leave on and it swims around the pool? And their water is FANtastic, no chlorine smell at ALL. :)
So if you want to swim in a highly chlorinated pool, best to do a detox bath sometime afterwards with plenty of salts. There are probably compounds that would help take out the chlorine... hmmm... here's one:
