HOWBURN
Hi,
I get a bit confused with the PH issue. Any thoughts on the following would be appreciated.
I have been reading a lot about rhubarb, in that it exercises a digestive action, acts as a bile salts conveyor, and is classed as a hepatic stimulant.
In the stomach it increases the flow of digestive juice and induces their movement. Besides stimulating the secretions from the liver which convey bile alts, it assists the intestine in the absorption of fats. Its alos a laxative, and antiphlogistic(sp).
This all sounds very good for SIBO and candida symptoms. But, it is very acidic. What I'm unsure about is, with a PH of between 3.01 and 3.59, is it, like lemons, the acid that alkalises? Do you understand this issue, and if so would you enlighten me as to whether eating rhubarb would be a good thing or a bad thing. It is full of different acids, and ash, vits, etc.
I got onto this because my husband has a cholesterol issue, and knew rhubarb was a natural reducer, but when all this SIBO stuff was being posted, I wondered if it would benefit me in that area.
Thanks
Fiona
