1. A better question is what can you do to make your bile more soluble so that you don't have to flush. I'm on a rant this week on this issue. Beet protocol, taurine supplementation or tudca, if your constitution is amenable (pitta) then bitters included in the diet or as herbs will increase bile flow. Caveat on bitters: this will only be helpful if you are not far gone into a very congested stoned biliary system, otherwise you will be pushing on a brick wall and cause pain, turmeric was mentioned in another post - it is a bitter herb but also has some fat dissolving properties. Usually anything bitter in the diet only works long term for pitta or kapha types. Good herbal bitters are gentian, artichoke, and dandelion. There are scores and scores of bitter herbs that can all have benefit.
coffee enemas work well for a lot of people as a substitute for flushes. Moritz was big on the herb chanca piedra to break up stones (phylanthus niruri or amarus / Bhumiamla)
I do not think the issue of weight gain is calories. However it is a valid point and I have experienced this as the oil mix slowed down my metabolism a lot. To counter this I would take extra
Iodine on the day or days after a flush to speed things back up. 4
ounces of oil every 2-3 weeks I don't think will be a big issue though. Especially if you restore your bile flow, then the benefits start to outweigh any negatives by a large margin.
To answer your question as briefly as possible I would say try tudca first. If it does not pan out then go to
coffee enemas and then flushes last.
