Hi SlowSmile, thanks for taking the time to respond to my questions. And yes, I'll be the first to admit that I'm more than a little paranoid with the flammability of turpentine.
If interested, have a look at this thread.

They talk about turpentine in relation to oil painting, and how to dispose of turpentine-soaked rags (properly), and even though the amounts of turpentine used might be different, the general chemistry / flammability principles still apply.
Turpentine should be stored in a cool, dry, well-ventilated area in tightly sealed containers that are labeled in accordance with OSHA's Hazard Communication Standard [29 CFR 1910.1200]. Turpentine can undergo autoxidation in contact with air and can generate heat that may spontaneously ignite in a confined space. Containers of turpentine should be protected from physical damage and should be stored separately from strong oxidizers (especially chlorine), heat, sparks, and open flame. Only nonsparking tools may be used to handle turpentine. To prevent static sparks, containers should be grounded and bonded for transfers. Because containers that formerly contained turpentine may still hold product residues, they should be handled appropriately. [/excerpt]

Turpentine research -- proper honest research -- is very hard to find because it has been deliberately suppressed by the drugs companies.
If you really want to know why turpentine is so effective against such a wide variety of pathogens species then you should read this research:
The essential oil of turpentine and its major volatile fraction (α- and β-pinenes) A review
The allopathic drugs companies has no antiobitic, anti-viral, anti-fungal, anti-parasitic etc that can compete or that even comes close to what turpentine can do to kill such a wide range of pathogen species. And because of the way turpentine kills these pathogens(very fast) -- pathogens cannot adjust to it like bacteria can adjust to antibiotics.
Little wonder then that the drugs companies banned turpentine...their drugs just coudn't compete with turpentine's anti-pathogenic capabilities. So they just banned it and everybody believed their corrupt reasons despite the fact that turpentine had already been used internally -- quite safely and effectively -- for thousands of years.
I can only tell you how I started using turpentine. I started with half a teaspoon and worked up to a full teaspoon within 4 days. Depending on the extent of your infection, you may get a Herx reaction or you may get no Herx reaction. I personally don't think using a couple of drops of turps to start with will have much effect. The problem is your fear. I can't do much about that. I've also recommended half a teaspoon of turpentine to 4 y.o. kids when I was helping three parent groups to cure their children of autism and ASD disorders. That worked well without any problems except for the Herx rection I mentioned. So it's really up to you.
I've already described how you should be taking turpentine for Whipples Disease in a previous post. Here it is again:
Whipple's disease is initially caused by bacteria that resides deep in the intestinal tract. This is their main breeding area. Using turpentine with an oil like castor oil will help to keep the turpentine from being absorbed into the blood -- so that the turps will primarily act to kill the bad bacteria in your gut. You should also expect a Herx reaction initially. If the Herx is awful just reduce the turps dosage -- but don't stop the protocol!.
After you have cleared the bad bacteria from your intestines you should then switch your protocol to taking the turps on an empty stomach wth one tblsp of raw honey or with blackstrap molasses or with a tspn of sugar. Take this on an empty stomach so the turps is rapidly absorbed from the stomach into the blood. This will help you to clear any residual bad bacteria from the blood, tissues and organs. Good luck!!
It might also be an idea to take higher dose Milk Thistle -- 1000mgs twice a day with meals -- to reduce the poisons that will always be released from the killed bacteria in your blood. Doing this will help to stop any excessive liver stress from these poisons and might also give you a gentler healing experience.
