Hi ya all. Just started Cortef / hydrocortisone yesterday. 20 MG per day. 10mg in am, 5mg at Noone and 5mg between 4-5pm. I'm not noticing anything and I don't know why because my dutch 24 urin cortisol test showed extremely low levels throughout the day. For instance normal range was 33-90 and I was .05. I feel soo tired. I'm wondering if it took some days for others to see results or if others have switched over to prednisone and saw a difference? Please let me know. I need my life back for my children's sake.

How many urine samples did you provide for the test?
If there was more than one sample, did they provide a graph or text results for each sample?
Do you just have fatigue or do you have other symptoms?
Roughly what is your age 20's, late 40s, 50s, etc?
Do you have more fatigue after a stressful day or after eating certain foods or at certain times of the day?
Do you have so little energy that you wonder how you'd get out of bed in the event of a fire, or does stress help you to get moving? I am more of the latter, a fireman's personality.
Do any supplements or dietary changes tend to help you?
Were any other related hormones tested--progesterone, estrogen, DHEA, pregnenolone etc. If you have results, please include the reference range and any details, for example, DHEA vs DHEA-S.
Do you identify with the description of chronic fatigue at this site.

This is a reply to # 2,389,398I'm exhausted throughout the whole day. I can sleep 12 hours straight and it doesn't do a thing for me. I'm not bed ridden but close to it.
I'm 35 and yes I've gained about 20 pounds since becoming sick. I also started suffering with severe ocd that came along when they adrenal fatigue symptoms did.
My cortisol test was taken with four urine strip throughout the day. My cortisol levels didn't even come close to being in range. My Dhea was on the low range.
I've started taking Dhea in the last couple of days and have noticed no difference. I start progesterone cream tomorrow. I'm not sure of the dose as there was some confusion about dosing on the prescription that the doctor wrote. I guess I'll find out when I pick it up from the pharmacy.

This is a reply to # 2,390,364Remember, there are many things that can cause or contribute to fatigue. Hopefully you read about one of them in Dr Huggins' article on CFS.
Chronic, low dose mercury exposure will cause quite a few problems that cause or contribute to fatigue. I'm not saying you necessarily have that problem, but I'm just sharing it as an example.
You'll need to look into thyroid, including Free T3, not just TSH.
Iron
Mitochondria support such as CoQ10
Methylation support--B12, folic acid, TMG, zinc, etc.
Possible support for catecholamine neurotransmitters.

If you have low levels of cortisol in your body I'd expect the HC medication and other hormones to be helpful over the long term; however, I'm never surprised when they are not a cure-all in a mercury toxic person. Mercury damages so may systems in the body.
